Last week we covered some great ground: summer frustration, survival recognized, Grateful Friday, START, and Hero. Hero was amazing. It brought me down to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Yesterday I got up with Avi and we started with the Lincoln Memorial, then we went to the Korean War Memorial. We went to the Vietnam Veteran Memorial and we just kept exploring. We saw a Juvenile Diabetes Race and then we walked up onto the mall and there was this mile of red quilts just spread out over the mall.

We didn’t know what it was. We walked over to one of the women and she explained that this was an exhibit by 3,000 women who have been raped and they finally feel comfortable sharing their stories. So they wrote them and they put them on quilts. It was beyond moving. I don’t really know how to describe what I was feeling. Sick, nauseous, happy that they had an outlet to share it with. Over and over Avi and I kept reading. No means no. So that’s where I get today’s word from: NO.

Here’s the quote, “It’s only by saying no that you can concentrate on the things that are really important.” Steve Jobs.

Do you think he heard the word no in his business career over and over and over? He didn’t hear it. Don’t say maybe if you want to say no. There’s nothing more frustrating than asking somebody a question and you need a yes or no and you get a maybe. Be decisive. Make decisions better. Things will come your way when you make decisions. Now, no is a complete sentence. It does not require justification or explanation. No means no.

Only I can change my life. I know I’ve tried to change others. We’re in the process of doing it today with a really good friend. You really can’t change people, all you can do is try. Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me. Now, you know, next Saturday is episode 100. Whitey’s hosting it up in Sheds, New York.

A lot of people want to know Whitey’s story. I talk about buses a lot. People don’t necessarily know my story. So on Saturday, Whitey’s going to ask me some questions. I’m gonna ask him some and we’re both going to talk about what we had to deal with, what we had to overcome.

So when you think of the word no, think about your career. Do you want to continue in it? Are you happy or no?

Don’t keep going to a place that doesn’t work because then you have financial issues and it’s the beginning of the month and you are struggling to make ends meet like so many people do.

Don’t say, I can’t do this.

No, I’m not gonna do it. I need to make a change. I need to figure out how to live on the money I have or go earn more of it or live a different lifestyle. How about your health? As I’m sitting here outside in this beautiful courtyard, I see a multiple amount of people smoking cigarettes. I don’t think at seven o’clock in the morning that’s good for your health. I don’t think it’s good for your health at any time. It’s their choice. That’s what they want to do, but we need to stop. We need to say no, we don’t eat foods that are going to hurt us. We don’t put things in our body that we know aren’t doing good for us.

You need to make changes because you can’t change other people. So you got to change yourself. No, no, no, no, no means no.
