Kinsey Grant anchored her first morning news show in the 5th grade decked out in her favorite pajamas. From that point on, the Florida native was hooked. Today, more than a decade later, the business journalist and self-proclaimed news junkie delivers the day’s most relevant and interesting business happenings as editor of the Morning Brew, an online newsletter with more than 1.5 million subscribers, and host of the Brew’s Business Casual podcast.
The daughter of former Florida state senator and U.S. congressman, James W. Grant, Kinsey grew up in a family where current events were regularly discussed at the dinner table and politics was a hot topic. Yet, despite her early exposure to and interest in the news, plenty of naysayers questioned Kinsey’s choice saying it was “a terrible idea.”
“I had more than one teacher tell me, ‘You’re never going to make any money.’” she said. “Why work in media?”
In today’s episode, Kinsey shares her journey from a small community in Florida to the fast-paced business and finance mecca of New York City — and why staying true to your passions (and nimble in your pursuits) can yield the biggest returns.
