Today’s word of the day for all of us parents who are celebrating is graduation.

The quote of the day is “Success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing you will be successful.”

I have preached this to my children for years. If you can do what you love it’s not a job, it’s not like going to work, and the likelihood of you being successful at it is really big.  So encourage your children to do what they want to do instead of getting a job based on wanting to live in a certain city or because a friend got a specific job. Instead, get a job doing something that you love to do.

Since my daughter, Claudia was little she has always wanted to be a teacher.  I even bought her an overhead projector to play teacher at home.  She pursued it even though so many people warned her about the negatives of being a teacher including the financial aspects, but she stuck with what she wanted to do.  She will be working as a student teacher in the Denver school system come August and will soon be certified. She is graduating today and I am so proud of her.

Every child’s path is going to be different, but it is important to support the path of your children.  Remember, “your education is a dress rehearsal for a life that is yours to lead”

Graduation is an exciting time because it marks both a beginning and an ending. It’s warm memories from the past and dreams of the future.
