Today, April 22nd, is a special day in our country and around the world as we join together to celebrate the 49th anniversary of Earth Day. It is an event. It’s an awareness day.
The purpose of Earth Day is to promote Environmental Awareness and calls for the protection of the planet. “Environment is no one’s property to destroy; it is everyone’s responsibility to protect.” Mohith Agadi
This day is important to me because my daughter Natalie has been passionate about the environment since she was little. She is passionate about nature and animals. At 7 or 8 years old she became a vegetarian. She’s now a vegan. She went off to study environmental sciences at UCLA. She graduated and is now working in energy conservation.
Natalie is all about conserving energy. She yells at me if she sees me with a plastic water bottle. She recycles. She is always volunteering for clean-ups. Natalie is also out there educating, preserving water and planting trees.
We have to remember, “The earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth.”
“The environment is where we all meet, where we all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing we all share.”
Yesterday, I was down here on the beach writing Howiedoinit in the sand. I needed something to write with and it was so easy to find a plastic spoon on the beach and this beach is fairly clean. So now I have made a commitment that when I walk on the beach I am bringing a backpack to pick up garbage.
I encourage you to use fewer plastic products, take care of your environment, such as the beach. Happy Earth Day! Let’s work on it together!
